The human brain is made up of two sides or hemispheres, known as the right and left. These two halves of your brain control the opposite sides of the body. The right hemisphere controls the left side of your body and vice versa.
Also, the two halves of your brain control very different functions for us. The right side of your brain handles the original components of our lives.
These innovative components include artistic ability, music, imagery, and facial recognition. The left hemisphere is the side mostly responsible for logical thought and deals with numbers, logic, analysis lists, and facts.
People always use both sides of their brain but will favor one side over the other. For example, most can undertake basic mathematical functions but will never aspire to be a mathematician.People always use both sides of their #brain but will favor one side over the other Click To Tweet
We can all appreciate a beautiful picture but will never aspire to be an artist. Most fall somewhere in the middle. When we try to fool our brains, we often end up with the hemispheres contradicting each other. Thus resulting in a left brain right brain conflict.
This diagram is the most common test for this conflict. Here trying to differentiate the colour of the text versus the word itself causes confusion. For example, the answer to the first word is ‘green’ as you are trying to identify the colour of the text and not the word itself.
Any occasion where you are trying to relate creativity with logic will give the same result. When laying out any design, an odd number of items will always look better than an even number. Our reasoning mind will say that it is irrelevant how many items there are they should all look good together.
Another confusion arises when looking at symmetry. Symmetrical arrangements please our logical brain as they are equal on both sides.
Asymmetrical layouts often meet our creative side as it is the beauty of the arrangement and not the placement of the items that is appealing. There is a place in our lives for both logic and creativity and when to use either one depends on the person. Don’t get stuck on whether you are a logical or a creative person, we all have elements of both. That’s the difference between left and right brain.
